Richard Avedon e l’anima del ritratto

Oggi non parlo di uno sconosciuto..anzi…tutt’altro! Richard Avedon è uno dei ritrattisti più importanti della storia della fotografia di tutti i tempi e oggi avrebbe compiuto la veneranda età di 90 anni.
Avedon si è sempre contraddistinto da uno stile pulito e diretto; le sue immagini avvolgo l’osservatore e lo proiettano nell’anima del soggetto ritratto. Non fotografava volti, ma le anime di coloro che si adagiavano davanti al suo obiettivo.
Il suo stile ritrattistico prevedeva spesso la simbiosi con il soggetto, riusciva a stabilire un rapporto empatico che però non risultava mai ne troppo intimo ne troppo distaccato, i suoi soggetti così si ritrovavano in un limbo che risulta non avere tempo ne luogo.
Avedon inizia la sua carriera fotografica nella marina mercantile, assegnato alle autopsie e alle foto d’identità, e nel frattempo si divertiva a ritrarre i suoi compagni di camerata. Successivamente inizia a lavorare con testate giornalistiche di grande importanza nonchè per riviste patinate come Vogue e Life, e per diversi brand moda (Valentino, Versace, C.K., ecc). Le sue immagini sono esposte nelle più prestigiose gallerie e musei del mondo, alla stessa valenza di grandi capolavori d’arte.
Today I do not speak of a stranger .. but … far from it! Richard Avedon is one of the most important portrait painters of the history of photography of all time and today would have turned the ripe old age of 90 years.
Avedon has always been marked by a clean and straightforward and his images envelop the viewer and cast the soul of the subject. Not photographed faces, but the souls of those who adagiavano front of his lens.
His portrait style often included the symbiosis with the subject, could establish an empathetic relationship but it was not ever too intimate or too aloof, his subjects so they found themselves in a limbo that is not having time nor place.
Avedon began his photographic career in the merchant navy, assigned to autopsies and photo ID, and in the meantime he enjoyed portraying his fellow comrade. Then he started working with newspapers of great importance as well as for glossy magazines such as Vogue and Life, and for several fashion brands (Valentino, Versace, CK, etc.). His photographs are exhibited in the most prestigious galleries and museums in the world, the same meaning as the great masterpieces of art.
